In June 1965, I spent 3 weeks sitting outside the Shindig studios in Silverlake with demo recordings of my band The Offbeats. The guard, taking pity on me, spoke to the booking agents who sent the co-producer of the show - an 18 year old David Mallet - to listen to the tapes. It being the '60s, he decided he liked it enough to book us immediately! He then became my manager/producer for the next 4 years.
